THE HOME OF AMATEUR THEATRE IN SAUNDERSFOOT

Picture

Saundersfoot Footlights is an amateur musical theatre society in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, founded in 1977. We pride ourselves on being a hard working and family friendly group who now present shows every year, including a Summer musical production and a Christmas pantomime. The group takes members from age 10 & above, with the age of some being at the director's discretion for each show.
You can get involved as a supporter or member to be part of something special - musical theatre.

The Story
Essex, 1968. Inside the sprawling Ford Dagenham plant, Rita O’Grady is just trying to get through the day, balance her marriage, and keep her kids in clean school shirts. But when the factory’s female sewing machinists are suddenly reclassified as "unskilled" labourers to justify a pay cut, Rita is pushed into the spotlight.  What begins as a small grievance over pay grades quickly spirals into a revolutionary battle for equal pay.

The Conflict
Rita finds herself leading her friends and colleagues in a strike that brings the Ford empire to its knees.
Along the way, she must navigate:
• Pressure from the Top: Facing off against the corporate giants of Ford and a dismissive government.
• Personal Sacrifice: Struggling to keep her marriage to Eddie intact as the financial and emotional toll of the strike hits home.
• Political Fire: Finding an unlikely ally in the fiery Secretary of State, Barbara Castle.

The Vibe
Based on the hit 2010 film, this musical is a high-octane celebration of friendship, courage, and the "ordinary" people who did something extraordinary. With a score that blends 60s pop, soulful ballads, and working-class anthems, it’s a funny, touching, and ultimately triumphant look at how the girls of Dagenham changed the world.

The musical has a fantastic, high-energy score by David Arnold (music) and Richard Thomas (lyrics).
It’s a mix of soulful 60s pop, gritty industrial anthems, and comedy numbers.

"Come and join us at Saundersfoot Footlights for another amazing production!
From the defiant roar of ‘Everybody Out’ to the heartbreaking intimacy of
‘The Letter,’ follow the journey of a woman finding her voice and a family fighting to stay together."
